Assessment and Optimization of Diagnostic Imaging Department across multiple sites

We have improved accessibility, employees' and physicians' engagement, quality of care, and operating margins in many organizations.
Below is a case study of a Diagnostic Imaging Department across multiple sites
Client and Facilities
Three different community hospitals
Challenge
The increase of Independent Health Facility (IHF) competition for the organization imaging volume and declining margins prompted the group to consider a comprehensive assessment of Ultrasound and Echo modalities within its facilities.
Services Provided
OPEXC utilized an analytical modeling and benchmarking methodology to analyze the contribution margin and case mix volume from each site and model the impact of different improvement levers. The recommendations were further used to develop clinical priorities plan to improve accessibility and productivity at each location.
On a follow-up engagement, OPEXC supported the implementation of the improvement plan through critical interventions that included: booking process streamlining, staffing schedule optimization, patient flow improvement, clinical process standardization, and repatriation strategies of outpatient referring physicians.
Results
Increased staff and physician engagement in optimizing the DI department to improve flow, increase revenue, and efficiency. Departmental contribution margin target rose from 10% to 47% through improvement in referral base and staff productivity.
Impact
Contribution margin increase of ~$1Million annually.
